Maharashi Vedic University, iREACH Project Partner, is the only rural-based university in Cambodia, and includes in its mission statement the goal of bringing IT to rural development. It has an established record and an active programme of working with the surrounding community in agriculture and rural development.
THE MISSION STATEMENT To help bring peace and prosperity to Cambodia through the provision of practical, innovative, and relevant higher education, training and consulting services and non-formal education as well as information and technology to people and organisations throughout Cambodia, whilst maintaining a harmonious, supportive and ethical working environment for its staff and being committed to self-sustainability.
BACKGROUND Maharishi Vedic University (MVU) was established in 1991 as a joint venture between the Ministry of Education of the Royal Government of Cambodia and the Australian Aid for Cambodia Fund (AACF). The university is run by Cambodian Government appointed administrators and foreign specialists and advisors. MVU’s main campus is located in Kamchai Mear District, Prey Veng Province, approximately 140km east of Phnom Penh. Two branch campuses are located in Kampong Cham Province and Prey Veng town. Over 1300 students from provinces all over Cambodia are currently enrolled across the three campuses. MVU’s academic programs include bachelor degrees in Management, specialising in Marketing, Accounting and Human Resource Management and in Agriculture, specialising in Agronomy, Rural Development and Natural Resource Management. Both the Management and Agriculture Faculties include qualified Cambodian professors as well as international professors with degrees from universities in Australia, New Zealand, India and other countries.
SUCCESS OF STUDENTS AND GRADUATES Our graduates report that they are highly satisfied with their education and are well prepared for their careers. They also report that their education gave them better ability to understand and apply scientific principles, to work cooperatively with others, to lead and guide others and to appreciate different cultures and philosophies. Over 600 scientific studies conducted at more than 200 universities and research institutions in 33 countries have documented the benefits of the University’s approach to education for mind, body, behavior and environment.
