1. CONVENING LOCAL COMMITTEE(Photos)
The first and very crucial activity undertaken in Kamchai Mear Pilot
is in understanding the community and building confidence with local
authorities. Meetings in village, commune and district levels were conducted
to ensure awareness and to drum up community interest in the project.
2. FORMATION OF INTERIM COMMITTEE (REFER TO COMMUNITY COMMITTEE
FOR MORE DETAILS)(Photos)
Currently, the interim committee members have already been selected
in both pilots after undergoing an election process where villagers
nominated people of their choice and as many as they like. The nominated
candidates with the highest number of votes win. Women candidates were
encouraged. Before the end of the election, the Pilot Coordinator discussed
the roles and responsibilities of elected interim committee members.
The Pilot Coordinator also emphasized that the committee is working
for the community on a voluntary basis and that once a permanent committee
is selected, they will automatically finish their term.
3. BASELINE STUDY(Photos)
A baseline study was done in participated in by villagers coming from
the three communes of Kamchai Mear. Additional participatory rural appraisal
activities were set up to gather in-depth information on specific baseline
data collected, specifically gender-issues related to ICTs, production
and marketing information flow, and access to resources.
4. RENOVATION OF OFFICE BUILDING(Photos)
The district government of Kamchai Mear donated its old office to iREACH
Project to hold its office. In addition, two Auscos (old shipping containers
used as a temporary office during the UNTAC period) as temporary office
for iREACH project staff while the old district office building is being
renovated.
